The House of Frankenstein
by Martin Downing
October 9-19, 2008
Catherine Hickman Theater
Beach Boulevard & 26th Avenue South
Beautiful Downtown Gulfport, Florida
In this send-up of the old Universal monster movies, Baron Victor von Frankenstein tries, against all odds to perfect his “creation”. Unfortunately his only “success” to date is a mute monster who can double as a lamp. Adding to his misery is his inept assistant Igor, a terrifying German housekeeper, and his wife who is tired of the gloom and constant rain. To make matters worse, an odd assortment of “guests” arrive at his castle to remove their various curses – Count Dracula and his beautiful-but-bored vampire fiance, the Wolfman, and the Phantom of the Opera. This ridiculously horrific comedy is sure to be more treat than trick. |

Tootsie: The Play
by Murray Schisgal and Larry Gelbart
and adapted for the stage by Elaine Cloud Goller
February 5-22, 2009
Catherine Hickman Theater
Beach Boulevard & 26th Avenue South
Beautiful Downtown Gulfport, Florida
One of the touchstone movies of the 1980s, Tootsie is the story of Michael Dorsey, an out-of-work actor who disguises himself as a dowdy, middle-aged woman to get a part on a hit soap opera. The scheme works, but while he/she keeps up the charade, Michael Dorsey comes to see life through the eyes of the opposite sex. The script by Larry Gelbart and Murray Schisgal is a timeless winner and Island Community Theatre has obtained the first-ever exclusive rights for the stage adaptation based on the movie. Inarguably, this is Island Community Theatre's most expensive (and expansive) production in its 10-year history. Costumes, multi-media and sets are comparable to none - because it's a first! |
