2006-07 Season
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
September 21, 22 & 23 @ 8pm
September 24 @1:30pm
Catherine Hickman Theatre, Gulfport
Prisoner Randall McMurphy declares himself insane so he'll be transferred to a mental institution, which he believes will be more comfortable than the jailhouse. McMurphy soon finds that his ward in the mental institution is run with an iron fist by the domineering Nurse Ratched. McMurphy quickly flexes his individualist muscle in the ward, making a name for himself and causing trouble for the staff. During his stay he attempts to breathe life, masculinity, and individuality back into the submissive and emasculated patients, such as Chief, a tall, deaf-mute Native American. There's a lot more, but we're not in the business of providing spoilers, after all.
Directed by Michael DuMouchel. Starring Ron Farnham, Susan Johnson & Andrew Meacham.
Driving Miss Daisy
September 28, 29 & 30 @ 8pm
October 1 @ 2pm
Shimberg Playhouse, TBPAC, Tampa
Worth the drive from anywhere, Alfred Uhry's Pulitzer Prize-winning Driving Miss Daisy is a total delight! Performed last season in two seperate sold-out runs, ICT drives Daisy across the bay to the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center for four nights at the Shimberg Playhouse. Set in Atlanta and drawing from Uhry's own southern Jewish background, the story is told through a series of vignettes, progressing through time and eventually covering 25 years. The effects of time are evoked by the actors with mannerisms of age as well, topical references in dialogue, and subtle set and costuming changes. Superb set design, a stellar cast and impeccable direction make Daisy a must-see!
Directed by David Middleton. Starring Lori Hawbecker, Ed Walker, Jr. & Glenn Suyker.
Fawlty Towers
October 20, 21, 26, 27 & 28 @ 8pm
October 22 & 29 @ 1:30pm
Catherine Hickman Theatre, Gulfport
Fawlty Towers is more than just a comedy, it's a work of genius. Not only did writers John Cleese and Connie Booth give the world the most unhinged sitcom hero ever, a brace of unforgettable comedy moments and a biting portrayal of loveless marriage, but they knew when to stop. There are only 12 episodes… and Island Community Theatre will be performing two episodes this fall, Communication Problems and The Germans.
All hell frequently breaks loose as Basil Fawlty tries to run the hotel, constantly under verbal (and sometimes physical) attack from his wife Sybil, assisted and hindered by Polly and Manuel (the bumbling Spanish waiter with a poor grasp on both English and his job).
Directed by Elaine Cloud Goller. Starring Scott Suver, Ron Rotondo, Susan Bell & Barbara Bicknell.
