2005-06 Season
Driving Miss Daisy
October 1-16, 2005
Catherine Hickman Theater, Gulfport
Worth the drive from anywhere, Alfred Uhry's Pulitzer Prize-winning Driving Miss Daisy is a total delight! Set in Atlanta and drawing from Uhry's own southern Jewish background, the story is told through a series of vignettes, progressing through time and eventually covering 25 years. The effects of time are evoked by the actors with mannerisms of age as well, topical references in dialogue, and subtle set and costuming changes. Superb set design, a stellar cast and impeccable direction make Daisy a must-see!
Directed by David Middleton. Starring Lori Hawbecker, Ed Walker & Glenn Suyker.
A Tuna Christmas
December 7-18, 2005
Catherine Hickman Theater, Gulfport
Come spend the holidays with all your old favorite citizens of Tuna, Texas and make some new friends while you're there. David Welch and Stuart Jonap, along with some split-second costume changes, portray all 24 citizens of Texas' third smallest town, where the Lion's Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies. It's 24 hours before Christmas and all comic hell is about to break loose as the delightfully eccentric characters attempt to cope with disaster prone little theatre production of A Christmas Carolnand a yard decorating contest that is being sabotaged by a mysterious Christmas phantom.
Directed by Jimmy Chang. Starring David Welch and Stuart Jonap.
There's a Burglar in my Bed
February 17-26, 2006
Catherine Hickman Theater, Gulfport
William Worthington III and his wife Ashley are going away the weekend from their Massachusetts estate, he to Delaware for duck hunting and she to her mother's in Boston. Both have, in fact, arranged trysts with their respective lovers in the estate's beach cottage. Inevitably their paths cross and divorce is in the air. Neither is willing to give up the world-famous Worthington necklace, so each devises a plan to steal it. True to the laws of farce, both simulated burglaries are scheduled for the same night. Fun-filled chaos ensues with mistaken identities, unlikely romantic liaisons, a bumbling private detective, a fake necklace, and a very determined nymphomaniac. Confusion is piled on confusion until the mystery of who has the real necklace and who has the fake is revealed in a surprise ending.
Directed by Elaine Cloud Goller. Starring David Guest, Susan Krauser, Rick Kastel, Ann-Michelle & Greg Bash.
Leader of the Pack
March 31-April 9, 2006
Catherine Hickman Theater, Gulfport
We see Ellie first as a member of The Jivettes during the late 1950's. Ellie finishes school, but heads to The Brill Building on Broadway New York in pursuit of a job as a songwriter for key producer, Gus Sharkey. Fellow songwriter Jeff Barry meets up with Ellie and after a whirlwind romance they marry and make wonderful music together. At the pinnacle of their partnership Jeff decides that Ellie should start to concentrate more on the domestic issues. This does not fit with Ellie's plan and she refuses to surrender her role in the song writing partnership. The resulting divorce throws Ellie into the depths of despair, but time heals all and we see Ellie once again in control of her life. The show finishes with Ellie and friends re-living some of the great songs.
Directed by Donna White.
